It can be difficult to accept that your outgoings are greater than your income and it’s not until you’ve found the strength and inspiration to sit down and go through your finances that you find minor changes to your spending habits can make a big difference.
The Charity has recently partnered with national debt charity, Christians Against Poverty (CAP) to help beneficiaries get control of their spending habits. Last year, the Charity’s trustees received training on the courses run by CAP so that they can recommend the right course to beneficiaries who may be struggling with money management.
One such person is Lisa. She had a successful career leading a sales team in the business supplies industry, but after having her little boy, James, her relationship broke down, and whilst tackling several health problems, she lost her confidence. Mental health difficulties subsequently prevented Lisa from working and she has gradually got further into debt.
Lisa applied to the Charity for financial assistance to pay bills and to set up a home for her and James. With our help over the last few years, she bought new furniture for the living room and has been able to pay to have the car repaired. We’ve even been able to award her a grant to pay for James’ football kit and annual club membership – vital for his – and the family’s wellbeing.
When Lisa came back to us for more help recently, we suggested that she attend an on-line course with CAP. Following the first session, Lisa has already started to make changes…
